The elements of the LOGO formula are:

  • Layout: Start with the elements of Day 2, and it’s ok to be messy.

There are 3 mistakes we often see at Soapbox Studio when we are re-designing a logo a client has created… we already covered color and fonts. The last of the top 3 has to do with the icon. 🎨 Biggest mistake #3 is: ICON IS TOO COMPLEX: we have done a lot of logo redesigns that go from an icon that a client created that has every piece of their business in it and that’s just not practical. Nobody can see that a glance it just looks like a hot mess. Instead, if you want an icon in your logo, keep to a simple icon that represents the main piece in your company that customer can identify with. There are 3 mistakes we often see at Soapbox Studio when we are re-designing a logo a client has created… yesterday we talked about the first one… color. 🎨 👉 Biggest mistake #2 is: TOO MANY FONTS OR HARD TO READ FONTS: When it comes to fonts and logos the simpler the better, but if you can find a simple yet unique font, that’s great. Don’t use a script unless you have some experience under your belt. Scripts can be hard to read at a glance, like logos are typically viewed. Putting a light color on a script font is just a recipe for disaster and it won’t be seen. Unless you are a trained professional!  🎨 Biggest mistake #1 that we see when we are redesigning a clients logo: COLORS, COLORS, AND MORE COLORS: Too many, too hard to read the copy, etc. If you already have a brand palette, make sure that you’re using colors in your logo that are dark or saturated and then make an option for your logo as an all white logo so you can put that on dark backgrounds or multicolored backgrounds. Don’t use pastel colors or in your logo if you can avoid it. It’s an easy mistake to make. Using colors is fun! But stick to your brand for consistency and make sure there is contrast so your ideal client doesn’t have to decode your company name. 🎨 Creating a standout logo for your brand is a balancing act.
